There is an app for everything and now we know about apps that can help users be more productive in and out of work! We recently attended GPPCMA Education Day and had the opportunity to attend a session presented by Liz Caruso on Using Technology to Make a Better You.
As Ms. Caruso went through each app and amazed the crowd with the technology that can be at our fingertips, there was an overall message she was sharing: there is a better way. SIMPLIFY; apps and technology should be helpful and not overwhelming.
During this session, she focused on four areas that can be improved with the use of technology: Productivity Apps; Apps to Simplify Your Life; Event Management; and Travel.
Here are just some of the tools we found useful in each of these categories:
Productivity Apps:
- TODOIST - manages tasks and projects
- Slack - internal communication tool
- TOGGL - online time tracker
Simplifying Your Life:
- Unroll.me - cleans up your inbox by helping you unsubscribe from unwanted emails, or "roll up" the ones you want to keep into one daily digest email
- Boomerang - schedule an email to be sent later, stop new emails from coming into your inbox until you’re ready for them, or take messages out of your inbox until you actually need them (you can download specific boomerang apps based on what email provider you use)
- AI - an artificial intelligence driven personal assistant who schedules meetings for you
Event Management:
- Proposify - online proposal creation
- Bizzabo - all-in-one event management platform
- Super Planner - planning tool with calculators for venue capacity, staffing, catering, staging, projection, etc.
Travel:
- Gmail Offline - allows Gmail users to read, respond to, search, and archive email without network access
- Gate Guru - app for checking flight status, finding and exploring airport amenities, booking rental cars, and tracking travel stats.
- Best Parking - Find the cheapest and most convenient parking garages and lots; save money by comparing prices on an interactive map
Challenge yourself with new things and add new technologies to your life. It may take some trial and error to find the right solution for you, so do not try to tackle all of your problems at once. If an app or technology isn’t working for you, ditch it and try another.
