Before I had a meeting with one of AH’s web designers, I had never realized the wonderful world of fake text called “Lorem Ipsum.” Some of you might be familiar with it, as it is dummy text that web and creative designers use to hold the place of real text that is yet to be entered. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is so readers can review and focus on the page layout and design, as opposed to getting distracted by the text.
Here’s an example: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Morbi sit amet urna sagittis, varius lacus. I always figured designers just got all of their frustrations out in life through the form of fake text. I pictured them going crazy on the keyboard and typing words in fury that made no sense to the human eye, with subliminal messages to their targeted person they were angry with that day. However, I soon learned that designers could actually just go and grab this dummy text from numerous resources online, without any harm to their keyboard!
Over the years, various versions of Lorem Ipsum have evolved, extremely funny ones I might add, and below are some of my favorites that our web designers opened my eyes to:
If you prefer your Lorem Ipsum a little meatier, then Bacon Ipsum provides delicious dummy text: "Bacon ipsum dolor sit amet salami jowl corned beef, andouille flank tongue ball tip kielbasa pastrami tri-tip meatloaf short loin beef biltong. Cow bresaola ground round strip steak fatback meatball shoulder leberkas pastrami sausage corned beef t-bone pork belly drumstick."
Want people to love your project even more? With Cupcake Ipsum, you can create a sweet, sugar-coated paragraph of text: "Cupcake ipsum dolor sit. Amet I love liquorice jujubes pudding croissant I love pudding. Apple pie macaroon toffee jujubes pie tart cookie applicake caramels. Halvah macaroon I love lollipop. Wypas I love pudding brownie cheesecake tart jelly-o. Bear claw cookie chocolate bar jujubes toffee."
Arr… use the pirate dummy text generator as a fun way t' show your text: "Hearties avast gally jib brigantine scourge of the seven seas hardtack weigh anchor coxswain Gold Road. Yo-ho-ho port driver pillage booty scuttle reef ballast barkadeer hang the jib. Spanker jury mast line weigh anchor yardarm American Main bilge aft jib crow's nest."
