The American Transplant Congress (ATC) is the joint annual meeting for the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) and the American Transplantation Society (AST), bringing together nearly 4,000 professionals involved in solid organ and tissue transplantation each year.
This year marked the 14th year for the event, and, as the size of the meeting continues to grow each year, so do the expenses associated with printing materials. In previous years, the cost of printing just the event program for all attendees reached nearly $33,000. AH worked with ATC to help alleviate the large cost, developing a technological solution.
Solution
To majorly cut costs, a mobile app was developed for the program. Although the ATC meeting utilized mobile app technology in previous years, the printed program had never been completely eliminated.
The mobile app program replaced the need for a printed program and brought it to the fingertips of attendees.
Results
Attendees responded very positively to the change, saying that using the mobile app was much more convenient than carrying around a large 350-page program book. There were a total of 3,400 downloads of the 2015 ATC mobile app, which equaled approximately 88 percent of the event’s attendees. Using the mobile app saved the ATC $33,000 and about 158* trees!
