The Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC), an AH client partner, embraced a new initiative in 2016 and 2017 in an effort to continue to grow the organization through multiple channels. CCMC established a collaborative with the oldest and largest membership organization for case managers, The Case Management Society of America (CMSA), to promote case manager professional development.
This brings CMSA together with CCMC, the oldest and largest credentialing body for case managers. The collaborative was designed to promote and support certification and membership. Under the agreement, CMSA members will receive a 20% discount when applying for the CCM exam as well as upon renewal. Those who hold the CCM certification will receive a 20% discount for CMSA membership. In the spirit of the collaboration, each organization has offered a complimentary exhibit booth at their respective conferences.
This collaborative was created after a long history between the two organizations that have often considered each other as competitors. However, this past year has been one of partnership and cooperation. While their roles are separate, both share a similar vision: advancing professional case managers in their career paths to ensure high quality, ethical practice benefiting patients and their families.

As the need for case managers increases, the Commission and CMSA are dedicated to workforce development. By working collaboratively, the health care system is strengthened, enabling a workforce that is ready to meet today’s health care needs. The two organizations will be working together to support case management education and certification. CCMC and CMSA are dedicated to promoting awareness and advancement of the case management profession.
One of CCMC’s strategic goals is to prioritize efforts on certification and re-certification. The collaborative with CMSA is a strategy which will help meet that goal by increasing awareness of the CCM credential, making it more attractive by offering a discount to CMSA members and ultimately, increasing the number of CCM certificants.
