Recently, the membership coordinators here at AH were presented with an education opportunity that included 9 modules of the Association Trends: Millennials to Members webinar series to help improve our dedication to our clients. I decided to embark on the second module, “Embracing Change.”

This module concentrated on several topics that I was able to relate back to my client here at AH:

1. Outdated Procedures

The rules for retaining membership has changed. We need to explore new ideas for how to keep our members involved. My client is now over 40 years old. The technology and needs of our members have expanded in both areas.

2. Changes

We need to accept that changes occur whether they are good or bad. It is difficult to move forward with change when they are not in your comfort zone. For myself, I find taking action and moving forward is the way to go. You can start by taking small steps, then advance more quickly as your confidence grows.  The best way to do this is to avoid thoughts that involve “don’t, can’t or won’t.”

3. Trends

As you move forward, you will notice the changes other associations are making. Many of them appear to be exactly what your client is embracing. Whether it be new technology or the membership benefits, change has increased the quality of your association over time.

4. Focus

Once you start taking small steps and accept new ideas, your focus will be on the end result. The enhancements will confirm the dedication and encouragement you contribute to your client’s growth.  Embracing change may be challenging, but the end result will empower you and your client to be able to continue to grow.

In my time here at AH embracing change has been an ongoing process. At times, it can be difficult and frustrating, but when you see the final outcome, you realize your effort is not only rewarding but appreciated.
